Lindisfarne - Holy Island, Northumberland

fen_snapz's picture

Lovely location, with both the castle and a ruined priory close to one another. Lovely quaint harbour, with upturned boats used as boat sheds. Great for wildlife, seals are often on the beach and can be heard all the time. Very popular location with tourists. National trust maintained area. Check tide tables before traveling and leave plenty of time to leave the island. Lots of facilities locally.. shops, pubs and restaurants with public toilets etc.

This iconic view varies throughout the seasons. Sunrises are best in which case I would advise staying on the island. There is a variety of accommodation available and staying over will allow plenty of time to explore. As it is an island you will need to check the tide times to ensure the causeway is open.
