Burrow Mump, Burrowbridge, Somerset

Terry's picture

The hill known as Burrow Mump is owned by the National Trust and is topped by the ruins of a church (Grade II listed). Excellent panoramic views of the Somerset Levels from the summit, this is a great spot for atmospheric shots of autumn mists over the levels. The ruined church would also be ideal for night photography, light-washing, etc.

Open public access at all times.

Lots more potential in the vicinity for photos of the withy beds and drainage channels on the levels, especially after prolonged wet spells, when the levels become flooded, providing great reflections, particularly around sunset. Also a good area for birds.

I was inspired to visit this location after reading about it on this site and I wasn't disappointed. Great advice from Terry meant I got there before sunset and found the area was flooded which made for some great reflections. I will be going back again!
