Stourhead house is a palladian style country house set in a huge landscaped garden with artificial lake large areas of hills and woodland with several interesting follies spread around the grounds. Follow the path around the lake and various vistas reveal themselves.

Tintern abbey is situated in a steeply wooded valley/gorge alongside the river Wye. The Abbey - under the care of CADW ( welsh version of English Heritage) is derelict with only a small part of the building having a roof.

Avebury stone circle

Avebury village is set within a large prehistoric stone circle, older than Stonehenge. Situated well on the tourist trail, it gets busy in summer and is best visited early morning or late afternoon in summer.

West Kennet long barrow is not usually as busy as the nearby and very impressive Avebury stone circle, a signposted grassy dirt footpath leads across a field and up a small hill to the barrow.

Levant tin mine is owned by the National Trust and is perched on a dramatic cliff edge. It has a working steam powered beam engine in its original building as well as the 1900's shaft head.

Corfe castle is best visited out of season as it is very much on the tourist trail, the path up to and through the castle is steep in places but requires no special footwear. Corfe castle is owned by the National Trust and charges a small fee - members go free.
