The lake takes about 20 minutes to stroll round with good paths all round. There are rivers to and from the lake too. Plenty of anglers use the lake so there's potential for some candid people shots?

Semer Water is one of the very few natural lakes in Yorkshire - most are reservoirs, but Semer is natural. Situated amongst steep hills just to the south of Wensleydale, the Lake is very quiet and secluded.

You'll need a car with decent brakes and a clutch that doesn't slip because there is a very steep climb to the tarn. Few passing places so not for the faint hearted.

Best to arrive really early to get the most out of this stunning location - this was taken in October just before sunrise and I had the place to myself except for one other photographer. By 9.00am it was busy.

The photo taken here was after days of heavy rain when the lake was filling up from the adjacent tidal pond with running water under the footbridge. In this location on a clear day the sun will rise up to the side of the castle making a possible great shot.

One of the less frequently visited of the larger lakes but still has lots to offer; breathtaking scenery, tranquility an fantastic walks.
